## What to look for in Division 04 Masonry

- **Bond pattern** differs from drawings (running bond vs stack bond vs other)
- **Mortar joint thickness** differs from spec (typically 3/8" for CMU, 3/8" for brick)
- **Reinforcing bar size or spacing** differs from structural drawings
- **Grout pour height** or lift height exceeds TMS 602 limits
- **Wall tie type or spacing** differs (adjustable vs non-adjustable, horizontal/vertical spacing)
- **Through-wall flashing** type or termination detail differs
- **Weep hole spacing** or type differs (open head joint, wicks, tubes)
- **Control joint spacing** differs from spec or structural drawings
- **Expansion joint location** differs (critical for brick to accommodate thermal movement)
- **Lintel size or bearing length** differs from structural design
- **Shelf angle location or size** differs
- **Veneer anchor type or embedment** differs

## Severity

Default grade: Fix and Resubmit. Escalates to Blocker when the difference affects a fire-rated, seismic, or structural assembly.
